Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has informed of building more health centers to help people get access to health services in the country. A spokesperson to the ministry of public health in an interview with The Kabul Times correspondent said that currently 3,600 government hospitals and 2,500 private hospitals and health centers are operating in the country.
“There are 3,600 government hospitals and 2,500 private hospitals and clinics are delivering health services to the people across Afghanistan,” said Dr. Sharafat Zaman, a spokesperson to the ministry of public health.
Pointing to achievements of the country’s ministry of public health, Sharafat Zaman said that they have made good achievements in the field of diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive cases, including the construction of 150 health centers, launching nine campaigns against polio, reduction of polio cases in Afghanistan to only two positive cases, the development of health centers, supply of medicines and recruitment of 3,500 health personnel.
He further said that efforts were underway for the improvement of health services and the results would be soon shared with the media.
According to MoPH’s spokesperson, the committee has been tasked to evaluate all private and public hospitals or clinics whether they provide people with good health services or not. The MoPH’s spokesperson further said that results of the committee’s outcome would be also shared with the people in near future.
Dr. Zaman added that the ministry of public health has been able to evaluate nearly 3,000 hospitals and clinics in the past one year, saying that a number of clinics and health centers have been closed as they did not provide proper health services to the patients.
He said that 40 percent of the country’s areas have been deprived from health services during the previous government, stressing that the ministry of public health, therefore, MoPH planned to build 150 health centers in the country. Sharafat Zamana added that the ministry was planning to build 500 more health centers during the current year.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Public Health is working on the health system so that all people have access to health centers. Besides, the ministry of public health has made continued efforts to build the capacity of medics in health centers across the country.
