MoIC supporting media in light of laws, national interests, Minister Safi

Minister Safi meeting media officials and some spokespersons of government institutions

KABUL: Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) held consultative and introductory meeting Wednesday evening with media officials. The meeting was held with participation of deputy ministers, advisors and officials of information and culture, media representatives and a number of spokespersons of government institutions.
In the meeting, acting and nominee minister of information and culture Hasina Safi, while praising the country’s media and media organizations for their activities and works said the National Unity Government (NUG) in light of the country’s constitution, mass media law and other laws was committed to open activities of media and supporting them.
“There are nearly 3,000 print, visual and auditory media organizations that are registered in MoIC, showing diversity, freedom and pluralism and their spiritual concession will reach to government, people and media personnel,” Safi added.
Representing Afghanistan Journalists Federation, RahimullahSamandar briefed related to the federation’s activities and said the federation has fulfilled valuable works for creating coordination between media organizations.
He enumerated addressing of a number of violence cases against journalists and media personnel, exemption of tax crimes from a number of media organizations, donation and fund to needy journalists and others as achievements of the federation.
In the meeting, a member of journalists’ federation ShafiqaHabibi in her speech considered role of women journalists in the country’s media as pale, asking for attention in this regard.
Habibi added that they planned to hold a four-month training ‘management and leadership’ program for a number of girls graduating newly from journalism faculty so that they could work as women journalist leaders for journalists federation.
