KABUL: The Interior Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Serajuddin Haqqani termed cricket players as peace ambassadors and representatives of the nation, a statement from the ministry said Friday.
In a meeting with national cricket heroes, the Interior Minister said the cricket game improved after political change in the country, the statement quoting him as saying.
Haqqani urged cricket players to maintain unity among themselves and said: “Cricket players were the ambassadors of peace and representatives of the people.”
Players would be provided with special cards for their security, he promised adding after political change cricket was moving towards transparency and development.
According to him, cricket board was independent and no institution had the right to middle in their affairs, the statement added.
