MoF reduces custom duty on some food products during Ramadan

KABUL: To honor the holy month of Ramadan, the Ministry of Finance announced a reduction in custom duty on some food items, the ministry said in a statement the other day. The General Directorate of Customs of the Finance Ministry said that taxes have been decreased from 17 percent to 80 percent on 6 food items such as potatoes, tomatoes, apples, dates, watermelons and okra, according to the statement. In order to prevent the increase of prices in the market and considering the economic situation of the people, the abovementioned items’ customs have been decreased. Earlier, the Ministry of Finance announced the reduction of the customs duty on basic food items and said that 6.7 billion Afghanis has been made as a discount only in the eleven months of the last fiscal year.
