Ministry of Information and Culture committed to maintaining cultural heritages countrywide

KABUL: Minister of Information and Culture of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa has met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) in Afghanistan, Engineer Ajmal Maiwandi, the Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Francesco Bandarin and Professor of History and Archeology of Fudan University of the People’s Republic of China Oshek, the ministry said in a statement Monday. “The Ministry of Information and Culture was committed to protecting all cultural heritage and historical monuments across the country,” the statement quoted Minister Khairkhwa as saying. Decades of conflict and climate change have damaged dozens of historical monuments and should be protected without consideration of political issues, the statement said. In the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), Engineer Ajmal Maiwandi said that Afghanistan is one of the countries that have special position in terms of cultural heritage and historical sites, according to the statement. “We have common culture and history and should work together to protect the cultural heritage and historical monuments,” the statement quoted Maiwandi as saying.
