Minister Muttaqi invited to attend 5th Moscow Format on Afghanistan

Zakharova said on Thursday that the participants in the meeting will
discuss current developments in Afghanistan, efforts to ensure security
in the region and post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan.

KABUL: The Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi is expected to participate in the 5th consultative meeting of Moscow’s Format on Afghanistan, the ministry said in a statement Saturday. The consultative meeting discussing Afghanistan’s situation will be held on September 29 in Kazan city of Russia, the statement said. A few days ago, the Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Dmitry Zhirnov invited Amir Khan Muttaqi to participate in the upcoming meeting, which is going to be held on Afghanistan. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that the participants in the meeting will discuss current developments in Afghanistan, efforts to ensure security in the region and post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan. Addressing a press briefing on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum on Thursday, Zakharova said, “I would like to confirm that, on September 29, 2023, Kazan will host the fifth meeting of the Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan, which will involve key concerned regional players.” She added, “The meeting participants are to discuss current developments in Afghanistan, intra-Afghan reconciliation, efforts to ensure security in the region and the country’s post-conflict reconstruction. Meantime, the Islamic Emirate’s spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed that the Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has been invited to the meeting. “We welcome any meeting that benefits Afghanistan. Afghanistan’s participation in international meetings is crucial. If not, the meeting won’t produce the desired results since the position of Afghanistan and the Afghan system is significant and directly influences the decisions,” Mujahid noted. The Kabul Times
