Melon, watermelon products estimated 12,000 tons in Kandahar

KANDAHAR: The products of melon and watermelons have increased and are estimated to reach 12000 tons this (solar) year in Afghanistan’s southern Kandahar province, the state-owned Bakhtar News Agency reported Saturday. “Farmers planted melon and watermelon crops on 1,400 hectares of lands and is expected to yield up 12000 tons this year in Kandahar province,” the media outlet said quoting Mawlavi Shamsurrahman Musa the provincial Director of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock. The sales market for the products is also better this year, according to Musa who called the reason for the increase of the melon and watermelon an on-time cooperation of the provincial authorities by providing chemical insecticides to the farmers. Melon and watermelon products, according to the media organization, have also eye-catchingly increased in the country’s western Farah province. S. Raqib
