Meeting held to discuss protection of historical sites, monuments

KABUL: A meeting of the Committee for the Protection of Historical Monuments and Public Areas was held with Deputy Information and Culture Minister for Art and Culture Affairs Atiqullah Azizi the other day, a statement from the ministry said Monday. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency, Kabul Municipality and Agha Khan Cultural Services Network, the statement said. The participants talked about the construction of metal fences at the two banks of the Kabul River and discussed a series of issues relating to the work process, according to the statement. The Deputy Minister of Culture and Art said that the Kabul River, which is known as the his toric river and protected area of the country, should be given serious attention to its beauty and protection and that no one should be allowed to build reckless structures and buildings at either side, the statement said.
