LASHKARGAH: An aid organization held a mass wedding ceremony for up to 110 couples in the country’s southern province of Helmand, the provincial Radio Television of Afghanistan (RTA) reported the other day.
The ceremony was held by the private Silab Foundation in Lashkargah, the provincial capital city of Helmand province, where the chief Sayed Ahmad Silab said nearly 110 couples have been provided with free wedding ceremony, the government-controlled TV channel quoted.
“The main aim of the ceremony was to avoid extra-expenditures and so-called wicked dowries imposed by the in-laws in the current worst economic condition,” he told the provincial state-run TV.
Some 2,000 people, with economic problems, have so far been helped to massively or individually hold their wedding parties in the province.
