Key commander of Taliban killed in Jawzjan raid

JAWZJAN: A Taliban commander Mullah Shafiq was killed in clash with Afghan security forces in northern Jawzjan province, local officials said on Sunday.

Mullah Shafiq was killed after he and his fighters attacked with security outposts in Shebrghan-Mazar highway, a spokesman for provincial governor Mohammad Reza Ghafoori said.

“Mullah Shafiq was involved in insurgency activities against government forces in Faizabad district in the province and he was trying to destabilize the district,” Ghafoori said.

Taliban so far has not commented on the clash.
