Joint ministerial group meeting urged to discuss humanitarian assistance

KABUL: Deputy Prime Minister on administrative affairs Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi, met with the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons on Tuesday, a statement from his office said.
The meeting was held at the presidential palace and was attended by Ramiz Alakbarov, the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, with the two sides discussing appropriate coordination and transparency in humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, according to the statement.
Deborah Lyons briefed on UN activities in Afghanistan and asked for a joint group meeting between the UN, relevant Ministries, and other donor agencies, in order to find better solutions to the current problems, and boost coordination and rationality, for fair humanitarian distribution, according to the source. Deputy Prime Minister Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi, pointing to the recent flash floods that caused heavy financial and personal casualties and asked for more assistance for the victims. Hanafi reiterated that the Islamic Emirate has banned the cultivation and trafficking of drugs across the country, but the farmers need to be provided with alternative livelihoods.
