Islamic Emirate delegation participates in 15th OIC summit in Gambia

KABUL: A high-ranking delegation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) led by Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the 15th OIC Summit Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Banjul, the capital of Gambia, at the official invitation of that country, the ministry said in a statement the other day. It is expected that during the summit the Afghan delegation will hold meetings with several officials and leaders of OIC member countries, said the statement. The 15th OIC summit of member countries was held on the 4th and 5th of the current month in Banjul the capital of Gambia, attended by representatives of 57 member countries of the OIC. The summit aims to strengthen unity in collectively addressing the pressing challenges facing the Ummah (Muslim community) and expanding cooperation and solidarity among member countries in the pursuit of our shared goals as enshrined in the charter. The summit took place through Sunday with the central theme “Enhancing unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development,” and discussed global issues, notably the current situation in Palestine and the ongoing Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 34,000 people. During the summit, three key documents a draft Palestinian resolution, the draft Banjul statement, and the draft final document will be presented to the Council of Foreign Ministers and subsequently to the summit for discussion.
