Iran releases 16 Afghan inmates

ZARANJ: The Iranian government has handed over 16 Afghan refugees who have been recently released in Zahedan province of the neighboring country, a statement from the Nimruz provincial Foreign Affairs Department said the other day. “As a result of the efforts of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Tehran and the Consulate of the country in Zahedan, 16 Afghans have been released from the Al- Qader jail of that country and handed over to the Afghan local authorities,” the statement quoted Mawlavi Yar Mohammad Haqyar director of the provincial Foreign Affairs Department as saying. The released Afghans have been religious school students and were arrested by the Iranian security officials for having no legal documents, the provincial Foreign Affairs Department of the country’s western province of Nimruz said in the statement. Recently, 38 Afghan prisoners have also been released and handed over by Iranian officials to the local Islamic Emirate officials, according to the statement. Meanwhile, one of the released prisoners Abdul Malik Karimi appreciated the efforts of the Iran-based IEA Embassy and Consulate of Afghanistan and asked the Islamic Emirate to provide Afghans with job and educational opportunities inside the country, the statement added. More than 2000 Afghan prisoners have been released from different prisons of Pakistan which were prisoned on charges of not having legal documents and returned to their country so far.
