LASHKARGAH: A 20-bed infectious diseases hospital has been inaugurated in the southern province of Helmand, the provincial Public Health Directorate said in a statement the other day. The hospital opened for patients suffering from infectious diseases in Lashkargah, the provincial capital of Helmand. The new hospital for those patients who suffering from infectious diseases, will financially be supported by the Relief Humanitarian Development Organization (RHDO) non-governmental organization for the next six months, said the statement. Director of the Provincial Public Health Dr. Sayed Ahmad Sayed, said that measles and other similar diseases have increased in Helmand, and the province needed such a facility, according to the statement. Meanwhile, Director of the Bost Hospital Dr. Abdul Ahad Zahid also hailed the development, saying the number of patients visiting the Bost hospital had increased and therefore; the hospital should be provided with more medical facilities, the statement added. “There had been no special hospital for infectious diseases in the province and more beds were added to the new facility and the six-month contract extended, it would help to reduce the burden on the Bost hospital,” the statement quoted Dr. Zahid as saying. Director of the new infectious hospital, Dr. Qudratullah Sadozai, said that the 20-bed hospital has currently 38 personnel and all infectious diseases patients except tuberculosis would be treated there, the statement further added. Also, local residents expressed happiness over the establishment of the new hospital and said that the existing health facilities in the province were insuffi cient keeping in view the province’s population, and asking the relevant organs to pay serious attention in the ground. A resident of Lashkargah City, Qurishi Khoroti, , said there were only two hospitals in Lashkargah, which could not supply to the needs of the population, and dozens of people lose their lives due to various diseases every year. Mokhtar Safi
