Increasing number of Afghan refugees returning home from Iran

KABUL: The number of Afghan refugees returning from Iran to the county has eye-catchingly increased in recent days, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said in a statement Monday. “As many as 2,534 Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland Afghanistan, via Islam Qala ground port of the country’s western province of Herat in the past one day,” the statement said, adding that about 288 of them have been introduced to the provincial Agency of the International Or ganization for Migration (IOM) for receiving necessary assistance. The process of returning the refugees from the neighboring countries to their country continues,” the statement added. Previously on Thursday, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation reported the return of nearly 2,643 Afghan refugees from Iran to the country. Nearly 62,000 Afghan refugees have reportedly returned home from Iran since January. The reason behind returning the Afghan refugees from the neighboring countries of Iran and Pakistan is the ensuring of countrywide sure security. More than 2.5 million registered Afghan refugees reportedly have been living in Iran and about the same number of Afghan refugees are living in Pakistan. The Islamic Emirate has called on Afghan refugees who are living abroad to return home and join the reconstruction process of their war-ravaged country. Mohammad Nabi Naibi
