Immediate & practical steps needed to protect Minaret of Jam, Minister Safi

KABUL: A meeting of domestic and foreign experts was held yesterday at the ministry of information and culture to adopt principal measures toward protection of the Minaret of Jam in Ghor.
In the meeting, deputy minister of culture and art for information and culture Prof. Mohammad Rasul Bawary first spoke related to steps taken recently by the MoIC and relevant organs for the protection of the Minaret of Jam and said nearly 200 local laborers have been tasked to change the course of flood.
“Based on latest reports, flash floods have decreased in vicinity of the minaret, which can give chance to workers to intensify their work in the area,” Bawary said, adding that a delegation should be dispatched to the area to assess the situation and action should be taken in accordance to the findings.
In the meeting, representatives of relevant organs also enumerated works of their organs in this regard.
Head of UNESCO to Kabul once again expressed the organization’s continued commitment to saving and protection of cultural heritages in particular Minaret of Jam.
At the end of the meeting, acting minister of information and culture Hasina Safi stressed on a plan based on which immediate and practical steps should be taken to save and protection the Minaret of Jam, adding that based on volunteering culture, on the first day the local people were asked to take part in changing the direction of floods penetrating the minaret.
Safi further said that based on information of Ghor local administration and provincial directorate of information and culture, currently in 10m distance to the minaret, barriers and protective walls have been created against floods and further works were underway to save the minaret.
