IEA welcomes India for $25 million in aid for Afghanistan

KABUL: The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has welcomed the allocation of 200 million Indian Rupees (25 million U.S. dollars) by India in aid for Afghanistan, the state-run Hiwad daily said Saturday.
New Delhi announced a development aid of $25 million for Afghanistan in the Union Budget 2023-24. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
This budget has been allocated for the development and reconstruction of Afghanistan, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said.
According to the daily, India has also allocated a similar fund for Afghanistan last year.
Meanwhile, the candidate for the IEA seat at the United Nations Suhail Shaheen in an interview with the Indian Media, appreciated India’s development cooperation and asked India to resume its work on its stalled projects in the country.
“We appreciate development assistance for Afghanistan by India. There were various projects in Afghanistan which were being funded by India. If India resumes work on these projects, it will contribute to boosting relations and trust between the two countries.” Shaheen, further said.
