IEA upgrading diplomatic presence at embassies abroad

With the restoration of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, security and stability have been established across Afghanistan, and the interest of regional and world countries has increased in engagement and resumption of diplomatic relations with the Islamic Emirate. In the past two and half years, the Islamic Emirate has sought to upgrade its diplomatic presence at its embassies in other countries in the world. A strong central government, security and stability concerns, reduction in opium cultivation and production, regional economic projects, and the development of relations with neighboring and regional countries are what Afghanistan considers to be the cause and achievements for interaction and developing relations with the world, in particular countries in the region. Since the start of 2024, considerable progress has been made in relations between Afghanistan and some countries in the region. Of the key progress in relations with the world has been the receipt of the Afghan ambassador’s credential by Chinese President Xi Jinping. In late Jan this year, the Chinese president has received the credentials of the Islamic Emirate Ambassador to Beijing, which perhaps, be perceived as a diplomatic tradition. The reality, however, is that in doing so the Chinese government has provided tacit recognition of the Islamic Emirate as the official government of Afghanistan. Following the receipt of the credential of the Islamic Emirate ambassador by the Chinese President, the Afghanistan embassy in Uzbekistan has been handed over to the Islamic Emirate (IEA). With this, Maghfoorullah Shahab has been appointed as acting ambassador of Afghanistan to Uzbekistan, showing somehow developing relations and engagement of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan with countries in the world and region. This last week, Azerbaijan Ambassador to Afghanistan Ilham Mammadov held a meeting with acting Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi and presented the official note regarding the opening of the Azerbaijan Embassy in Kabul. Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting minister of foreign affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan called the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kabul and the appointment of ambassadoriallevel diplomat as key. The meeting focused on the commencement of diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Azerbaijan, economic cooperation and several other issues. Touching on a range of bilateral opportunities, Afghanistan’s minister of foreign affairs said that the Lapis Lazuli route holds special importance for Afghanistan, adding that with the activation of the corridor, Afghanistan can be connected to Europe. He said that the Islamic Emirate sought to upgrade its diplomatic presence at the Afghan Embassy in Baku. Expressing gratitude for Afghanistan’s support of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Mammadov said that Azerbaijan respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty and independence and did not interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs. It is the first time in history that the embassy of Azerbaijan is opened in Kabul. Currently, there is good space for cooperation between Afghanistan and countries in the region. Previously, over 17 countries, including Pakistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, China, Russia, and Qatar had accepted diplomats appointed by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Over the span of less than two and a half years, since the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan took charge of affairs, the Islamic Emirate has repeatedly asked for positive engagement with the world countries as it has now good relations with almost all countries in the region. Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, has said Afghanistan’s political and commercial relations with some countries of the world constitute recognition of the Islamic Emirate. He has said that the Islamic Emirate has been officially recognized as the world and regional countries’ representative offices and embassies are open in our country and our embassies are operating in countries abroad. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is committed and ready to engage and cooperate with all the regional and world countries by working together based on mutual interest and mutual respect. The Islamic Emirate’s policy over the last nearly two and a half years has depicted that Afghanistan defines its interests with the region in a winwin mechanism. The Islamic Emirate has repeatedly stated that it respects others’ interests, choices, government structures, and development models, and in return, expects others to respect Afghanistan’s interests, and governance and development choices and models.
