IEA to form investment consortium

KABUL: Ministry of Industry and Commerce has said that the Islamic Emirate will form an investment consortium with the participation of Afghan, Russian, Chinese, Iranian and Pakistani investors.
Nearly one billion U.S. dollars will be invested in the electricity and mining projects, water supply from Salang to Kabul, the second Tunnel in Salang and Kabul-Herat highway, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Commerce and Industry Nooruddin Azizi in an interview with Rutters has said fourteen Afghan traders are involved in the investment consortium.
“Four major proposals were presented to the traders which included construction of the Second Tunnel of Salang with a length of 8 kilometers, reconstruction of Kabul-Herat highway, potable water supply to Kabul and power supply” Azizi said.
In the near future, investors from the said countries will come to Afghanistan and start their investigations on the projects, the ministry spokesperson Abdul Salam Akhundzada said, as quoted by the statement.
Some Afghan economic experts said Afghanistan needs investment in different areas to address the ongoing economic challenges and asked for firm management of the consortium.
“Such investment consortium will help the country to reach self-sufficiency,” said Seyar Quraishi an Afghan economic expert.
