A number of Afghans say that the Islamic Emirate representatives should be invited to the UN convening meetings as it’s their right to take part as representatives of Afghanistan. According to the people, with the Islamic Emirate (IEA) takeover, an overall security situation has improved across the country and the international community should stop pretexting and recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan as a legal government of the country. “The world should be committed to the rights of Afghans and the Islamic Emirate’s representatives should be invited in all meetings which are convened or held by the United Nations,” said Ikramullah, a Kabul resident. He added any meetings held on Afghanistan should be also attended by the Islamic Emirate’s representatives, or the meeting would be useless and have no outcome. According to Ikramullah, the security situation has improved across the country; therefore, it’s time that the world should enter into a positive engagement with the Islamic Emirate. Ilham, another Afghan citizen, says the world is making excuses and cannot represent the people of Afghanistan. “No countries or organizations can represent the people of Afghanistan. We have now an independent government and its decision is accepted by Afghans,” Ilham said, adding that the overall security situation has improved; therefore, the world should stop losing the right of the government of Afghanistan. Currently, the Islamic Emirate’s representatives are not invited to any international meetings if held on the Afghanistan situation. In such meetings, sometimes representatives of our neighboring countries speak on behalf of Afghanistan, which is not acceptable as Afghans have always reacted to their remarks on social media. This comes after the country’s interior minister Serajuddin Haqqani in a meeting this week with the UN special envoy for Afghanistan, Roza Otunbayeva, requested that representatives of the Islamic Emirate be invited to UN meetings held on Afghanistan. The country’s ministry of interior in a statement has said that in the meeting, Otunbayeva has welcomed the improvement in security and said that the UN will continue its aid for the people of Afghanistan.
