IEA pays special attention to agriculture, food security, Stanekzai

KABUL: Deputy Foreign Minister Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai met with Beth Bechdol the Deputy DirectorGeneral of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and her accompanied delegation, the ministry said in a statement the other day. Deputy Stanekzai appreciated the United Nations FAO for their continued cooperation, adding that IEA pays special attention to agriculture, irrigation and food security, however, still needs exists for assistance from international aid agencies. “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) expects international institutions, especially FAO to concentrate their aid in infrastructure projects according to the agriculture sector and farmers’ needs, considering the principle of sustainability,” the statement quoted him as saying. He also emphasized the resumption of projects related to climate change and the environment and attention to alternative livelihoods for drugs. Deputy Director-General of FAO, Beth Bechdol said that in the last twenty years, this is the highest-ranking delegation of this organization that has visited Afghanistan and has decided to continue and expand its assistance in the technical sector, distribution of modified seeds, animal health, irrigation, climate change, mechanization of agriculture and other sectors.
