KABUL: A member of the Islamic Emirate has been released from the Guantanamo bay and handed over to the government authorities, early Friday morning.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) confirmed the release writing on his twitter handle that Asadullah Haroon was released as a result of positive and direct engagement with the U.S.
“The Islamic Emirate believed that inquiring after Afghan prisoners in other nations was its responsibility and tried that no Afghan shall remain in troubling condition in other nations,” Mujahid said.
“Efforts are underway for the release of Afghans imprisoned in other countries on different charges,” the spokesman added.
Asadullah Haroon, who was released from the U.S. detention area in Guantanamo Bay, arrived in Kabul on Saturday this week.
