KABUL: Dozens of prisoners have been released from prison, in southern province of Helmand, to honor one of the two biggest festivals, Eid-ul-Fitr, Bakhtar News Agency reported.
A total of 35 prisoners who were accused of various crimes were freed on the advent of the Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday, the state-owned agency said.
The release of prisoners was to honor Eid which is typically a period of exemption in the country, where the previous government had to do so.
Mawlavi Sidiqullah Mudasser the provincial judge said the prisoners were freed from two prisons in Babaji and Musa Qala districts.
