IDPs receiving assistances

By: Shukria Kohistani

KABUL: The country’s Ministry of State for Disaster Management has recently announced edible and nonedible items to distributed for the families displaced by heavy conflicts.
Over the recent two months of the war, nearly 22,416 families have been displaced and are said to be supported and helped by the government.
The Ministry of Refugees is talking about the displaced as the war has spread inmost provinces of the country over the last two months and the fighting has forced thousands of families to flee their homes and seek refuge in relatively safe areas and provincial capitals under hard conditions.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Tamim Azimi, spokesman for the Ministry of State for Disaster Management, told The Kabul Times that in order to help these families left their homes during the two months long-conflicts, the ministry has been able to combat disaster relief and to help food and nonedible items for tens of thousands of families.
“More than 25,000 families have been displaced as a result of the long clashes in nearly 20 provinces of the country, including Takhar, Kunduz, Baghlan, Faryab, Samangan, Logar, Wardak and some districts in Ghor, Badghis and Herat,” he said.
“We have war-displaced people, most of whom are in Takhar and Kunduz and the edible stuffs includes rice, flour, bean cooking oil, tea, peas, and nonedible aids and makeshifts, such as a kitchen utensil, tent, health kits that have been assisted as soon as possible for the displaced,” according to him.
He went on as saying that in Kunduz, we relocated a number of families to school buildings and some displaced people who were living on the roads in Takhar province were relocated to the homes of relatives and friends.
Likewise, in Badakhshan and Faryab provinces, we have relocated a number of other IDPs to temporary camps, and in other provinces, temporary camps have been set up for IDPs to live temporarily.
“Our survey is underway to provide more attention to the displaced families by the government,” he said.
Unfortunately, the only obstacles to the work of our surveyors are insecurity, which we cannot help these families immediately because they are worried about their own lives. But we are trying to meet the needs of the displaced.
According to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriates, most of the IDPs are from Kunduz, Baghlan, Helmand, Ghazni, Takhar and Badakhshan provinces.
Abdul Basit Ansari, a spokesman for the ministry, said that the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations had helped 20,000 families with food, carpets and tents. He called on partner institutions to co-operate with the ministry so that they can cover more IDPs.
The food and non-food packages provided by the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations to the displaced are not enough. A number of displaced people in Balkh province have said they are in dire straits.
They say they have lost their assets following the fighting between the Taliban and security forces.
“We have no water, no bread, nothing else,” one of the IDPs said adding some have lost their children and some homes and that they were living under hot climate after leaving their homes due to war.
Meanwhile, the Baghlan provincial Refugees and Returnees directorate has announced that about 8,000 families have been displaced in the past month due to the escalation of conflict in the province.
Sharifullah Shafaq, the provincial director of refugees and returnees in the province, said these families had been displaced from Nahrin, Baghlan-e-Markazi, Baraka, Dahanah-e-Ghori and other insecure districts and settled to the province.
According to him, out of 8,000 displaced families in the last month, one thousand families have been provided with assistances.
