IDPs facilitated to return to main residence

KABUL: The problem of internally displaced people is considered as a problem that can be jointly addressed by the government and international community.

Joint cooperation between various countries and the United Nations has changed a requirement. Besides, an overall and strategic research on the issue is something necessary.
According to Deputy Minister of Refugees and Repatriates Alhaj Mohammad Arsala Kharoti, nearly 250,000 internally displaced people have returned to their home provinces since the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan IEA took power in mid-August last year. Speaking in a news conference at the government’s media nad Information center in Kabul the other day, Mohammad Arsala Kharoti considered the total number of internally displaced people to 3 million, saying that efforts were underway to address problems of the rest of the displaced people in the country.
Internally displaced people have little access to services in comparison to local people. Most of the internally displaced people are facing with the lack of shelter, drinking water, health services, education and employment in the country. According to reports, there’s still a large number of internally displaced people are living under tents in very bad condition in cities as they have been displaced from city to city and from village to village. So far, humanitarian assistance provided by international organizations have been delivered to more than 3 million vulnerable and misery people including internally displaced people in the country.
“Based on official data, 550,000 of Afghan refugees have returned home from Iran, Pakistan and other countries,” deputy minister of refugees and repatriation said, adding that the total number of Afghan refugees living in Pakistan, Iran and all other countries have reached to nearly 7 million.
He said that efforts were underway to address problems of the Afghan refugees living in host countries, saying that ground would be paved for repatriation of Afghan refugees to Afghanistan.
Afghan ministry of refugees and repatriation is working to find ways to address problems of Afghan refugees living in host countries as most of them have no safety or legal documents to live in the host countries.
Based on international conventions, host countries have no right to go for forced deportation of Afghan refugees from their countries. In current circumstances, Afghanistan does not have the capacity to accept millions of Afghans living particularly in Pakistan and Iran as most of those that have been recently deported from some countries are facing with lack of shelter and increasing problems.
International organizations particularly the United Nations should pay further attention to the issue and work jointly with the Afghan government to address all pain and challenges facing the Afghan refugees in host countries and internally displaced people living in misery in various cities in Afghanistan. The United Nations and other relevant international organizations have recently started to provide necessary and urgent humanitarian assistance to millions of Afghans as urgent assistance and foodstuffs have been distributed to thousands of internally displaced people in the past six months across the country.
