Hundreds of emerald mining permits issued, providing jobs for thousands in Panjshir, official

KABUL: Director of Mines and Petroleum Department of the country’s northeastern province of Panjshir, Mawlavi Mohammad Qasim Amiri, in a meeting with Shaikh Shahabuddin Delawar said that over 560 emerald mining permits have been issued within the past nearly three years in the province, according to a statement from the ministry the other day. Mawlavi Amiri stated that after the resump- tion of power by the Islamic Emirate, illegal extraction and smuggling of minerals, particularly emerald has significantly decreased and more than 560 emerald mining permits have been issued, providing job opportunities for more than 10,000 local people in the province, according to the statement. Referring to further extraction and legalization of mining, Amiri asked the leadership of the ministry to send technical teams to survey all the mining areas in the province and distribute ruby permits. Meanwhile, the Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Shaikh Shahabuddin Delawar, stressed the need to prioritize job creation opportunities for the local people while issuing permits for both emerald and ruby extractions.
