KABUL: A total of 23 Afghan refugees earlier released from Pakistani jails returned home, while 2, 280 others voluntarily returned from Iran, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) said in a statement the other day. “As a result of the efforts of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Islamabad and the Consulate General of the country in Karachi, 23 Afghans who had been jailed for one year, have recently been released and returned through the Torkham port to the country,” the state The released refugees have been introduced to the provincial Agency of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to receive necessary assistance. According to another report, as many as 2,280 Afghan refugees returned from Iran to the country in the past one day. “At least 2,280 Afghan refugees returned home, via Islam Qala ground port of the country’s western province of Herat,” the statement said, adding that about 1,014 of them have been introduced to the provincial Agency of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for receiving necessary assistance. The number of Afghan refugees returning from Iran to the country has eye-catchingly increased in recent days; as 2,670 Afghan refugees had voluntarily or forcibly returned to their home country in the previous day, the statement added. Recently, hundreds of Afghan prisoners have been released from different prisons of Pakistan and returned to their country so far. The Kabul Times
