Hill slide leaves 20 dead in Nuristan, official

KABUL: More than 20 people have been martyred and 8 others wounded as a result of landslide in the country’s eastern province of Nuristan, the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management said in a statement on Monday. The ministry’s spokesman Mullah Janan Sayeeq said the mountain slide took place in the Nakra village of Tatin Valley of Nurgram district of the province last night due to heavy snowfall and resulted in the martyring of more than 20 people and the wounding of 8 others, according to the statement. “15 to 20 residential houses have partially and completely been destroyed, the statement quoted Mullah Sayeeq as saying. He added the rescue operation was underway to recover the bodies, saying some people were still trapped under the rubble. Due to heavy snowfall a number of the country’s highways have been closed for all kinds of traffic. The Kabul Times
