Govt. has zero tolerance for civilian casualties: ONSC

By: The Kabul Times
KABUL: The Office of National Security Council (ONSC) says that government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan takes note of UNAMA’s quarterly update on civilian casualties.
“This report demonstrates yet again the critical importance of a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire to save civilian lives,” a statement from ONSC said, pointing to a recent report of UNAMA on casualties of Afghan civilians.
The Taliban’s attacks and their use of roadside IEDs, suicide explosions in crowded civilian areas, car bombs and the use of civilian houses and public venues like mosques as shields remains the main sources of civilian casualties, the ONSC added.
According to ONSC, the Government has zero tolerance for civilian casualties, and protecting civilians in all situations remains our top priority. On top of existing mechanisms to reduce harm to civilians, we are committed to taking additional measures to protect our people during conflicts and from COVID-19.
