Government making efforts to reduce air pollution in big cities

KABUL: The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has begun efforts to reduce air pollution in big cities of the country.
Environmental monitoring groups monitor the fuel burning systems of homes, shops and factories to reduce further air pollution in the country. The air is polluted more than ever due to the use of coal and other smoky fuels by the citizens in the cold season, especially the big cities of the country. On the other side, using
smoke  producing of smoky fuels in factories and old cars is another cause of air pollution in Afghanistan. National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) of the Islamic Emirate says that it has reinforced its monitoring process of air pollution sources in Kabul, Kandahar, Herat, Mazar-e-sharif
and Jalalabad. The inspection team of this department frequently visits houses, shops and factories in big cities to make sure that they are using purifying filters.
The department said that they will continue a serious follow up of air pollution sources in the capital and provinces. However, citizens say they are struggling with poverty and have no choice but to use low-cost coal to heat their homes. It is worth mentioning that air pollution causes many diseases, including several types of cancer.
