FM Muttaqi, West discuss some key issue in Doha

KABUL: The Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi and his accompanying delegations have met with the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West, in Doha the capital of Qatar, the ministry said in a state ment the other day. The meeting was attended by a number of representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Da Afghanistan Bank and officials from Qatar-based Afghan Embassy and the Political Office, as well as a 15-member high-ranking delegation from various U.S. agencies, the statement said. In the two-day meeting, both sides discussed issues including trust-building and taking practical steps in removing names of the IEA’s leaders from the U.S. blacklist, lifting sanctions, unfreezing DAB’s foreign reserves, maintaining Afghanistan’s economic stability, countering narcotics and human rights, the statement added. “IEA once again reiterated that in order to build mutual trust and the Afghans can establish an economy with reliant foreign aids, the names of the IEA’s leaders should be removed from the blacklist, and the country’s foreign assets should be released,” the statement further said. Both sides emphasized the continuation of such meetings, understanding and interactions. The Kabul Times
