FM Muttaqi meets Uzbek, Iranian, Chinese foreign ministers in Samarkand

KABUL: Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Amir Khan Muttaqi has separately met with his Iranian, Chines and Uzbek counterparts at the threshold of Samarkand Conference on Afghanistan, a statement from the ministry said the other day. In the meeting, Acting Foreign Minister Muttaqi discussed bilateral political and economic relations, security, regional economic connectivity, increasing Afghanistan’s exports to the neighboring countries and other regional issues with the neighboring foreign ministers attended the conference, said the statement. Muttaqi appreciated China’s foreign policy, which respects Afghanistan’s independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that the China has an important role in the region and Afghanistan is willing to work together with the country in terms of economy, trade and investment. Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said that his country was ready to support Afghanistan in different sectors and called the security and stability of Afghanistan very important for the region particularly for his country, the statement quoted. “China wants to expand trade with Afghanistan and air corridor will be opened in the future to import dry and fresh fruits from Afghanistan to China, the statement further added. In the meeting with his Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, Muttaqi appreciated Uzbekistan for hosting the meeting on Afghanistan and said: “Afghanistan had a shared religion and language and they are very good economic partners.” Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov said that his country always supported peace and stability in Afghanistan and fortunately, the trade between the two counties have reached 800 million U.S dollars in the past one year.Afghanistan must be involved in any possible discussions about ongoing challenges and without the presence of Afghanistan there will be no constructive and positive results, the statement quoted. Afghanistan foreign assets should be released for the welfare and reconstruction of the warntorn country. Also, Muttaqi discussed political, economic and transit issues with Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian and thanked his Iranian counterpart for providing necessary facilities to Afghan refugees.
