FM Muttaqi holds telephone conversation with U.S.’s Thomas West

KABUL: Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, held telephone conversation with the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West and the U.S. Special Envoy for Afghan Women Rina Amiri, the other day.
Both sides discussed issues of mutual interest, a statement from the ministry said.
Thomas West shared information with the IEA acting foreign minister on the developments of the U.S. negotiation with the Afghan financial sector, particularly banking and monetary systems and other political and humanitarian issues, the statement added.
“We have achievements in numerous areas, security has been ensured, Daesh has been defeated and no one will be allowed to use Afghanistan’s soil against others,” the statement quoted.
“The banking system was operational despite all challenges, the afghani currency regained its value, the government has been able to pay salaries to over 500,000 former civil servants and tens of thousands of new employees without any discrimination and approve the upcoming fiscal year’s budget from domestic revenues,” the statement quoted Muttaqi as saying.
Meanwhile, Rina Amiri shared her views and concerns over women’s education, employment and human rights, asking the IEA to focus on the issues.
The acting foreign minister assured that the Afghan women were serving in education, health, passport and other government institutions and that the Afghan women have no problem with the decree issued about hijab.
He added that the decree issued to ban the cultivation and production of drugs has been implemented. At the end, both sides agreed on continued political interactions to tackle the hurdles with patience and to address the challenges together, the statement concluded. The Kabul Times
