FM Muttaqi discusses bilateral relations with Chinese counterpart

The country’s acting minister considered the introduction of the official ambassador of China to Afghanistan as a positive step towards bilateral relations between the two countries

KABUL: Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, on the sidelines of the third meeting of the TransHimalaya Forum, met with the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi in Tibet, the ministry said in a statement the other day. In the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations, raising diplomatic relations and opening new trade corridors between the two countries. Foreign Ministers of both countries called the mechanism of the Joint Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan-ChinaPakistan useful and hoped such meetings be continued in the future too. The country’s acting minister considered the introduction of the official ambassador of China to Afghanistan as a positive step towards bilateral relations between the two countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of China said that diplomatic relations with Afghanistan are not based on the influence of any other country and that China will continue its traditional relations with Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Minister Wang Yi assured of his country’s cooperation with the Afghan government in order to improve its governance and capacity. The Kabul Times
