Floods claim 50 lives in Ghor, ministry

KABUL: At least 50 people including women and children have been martyred and scores of others injured due to floods in the country’s western province of Ghor, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations said in a statement the other day. More than 2,000 houses and 2,500 shops have been completely, destroyed and 4,000 homes have partially been damaged due to floods in the province, the statement said, add ing thousands of livestock perished and over 50 vehicles have been damaged. Moreover, hundreds of hectares of agricultural land and bridges have been destroyed. Floods have also caused closure of Ghor-Kabul and GhorHerat highways, and roads connecting Ghor districts. The death toll is expected to rise as many people remain missing. Based on another report, dozens of people have been martyred and scores of others injured due to floods in Faryab province. Ismatullah Moradi, the provincial governor spokesman, said that the floods have caused huge human and financial losses. Furthermore, the Sar-e-Pul governor’s office in a statement said that floods have destroyed hundreds of acres of agricultural land, 60 houses, bridges, water dams, and shops. The Kabul Times
