Flash floods destroy 300 homes in Balkh

MAZAR-i-SHARIF: Flash floods caused by torrential rains have destroyed about 300 residential units and more than 1500 acres of farmlands in the Zari district of Balkh province, provincial police spokesperson Mohammad Asif Waziri said the other day. “The flood swept away many animals but there is no exact report about life losses and rescue teams have also been dispatched to the area to rescue flood-affected people,”
said Waziri. In separate report from the disaster department of the county’s northern province of Sar-e-Pul, on Saturday, A 12- year-old boy has drowned in flood in the Al Jihad district. Sayed Sifatullah, director of natural disaster management authority said that the flash floods occurred on Friday night, and damaged many houses, culverts, bridges, farmlands and washed out livestock.
