Fire displaces hundreds of families in Jawzjan

SHIBERGHAN: As many as 800 families have so far been displaced due to continued natural fire in the country’s northern Jawzjan province, a local official confirmed Wednesday. The displaced families left for Jawzjan provincial capital and the neighboring Balkh province, Abdul Sattar Halimi, the provincial police spokesman said. “The fire started two weeks ago and has now engulfed all over the Bala Mardian village, with five to six houses are completely or partially being burnt each day,” according to the official. Over 120 residential units in the province have so far been burned partially or completely, by the fire, the spokesman added.
Bala Mardian village, in Faizabad district of the province, is severely hit by what both officials and locals said a “natural fire” which is yet to be controlled.
Two weeks ago, primary reports suggested that up to 50 houses have been burnt by the natural fire, in the village.
