Exports of domestic products to foreign countries increased

Such trade and economic agreements between Afghanistan and other neighboring countries can
benefit both our country and other countries in the region, can create jobs, and can be very useful for
crediting national and trade relations.

Afghanistan Ministry of Industry and Commerce has informed of increasing exports of Afghanistan products to foreign countries in the past one year. The ministry has said that Afghanistan has exported $1.9 billion worth of products to various countries in the world and region in the 12 months of 2023. Based on information of the country’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the level of Afghanistan exports to other countries has increased by 2% during 2023, with the largest exports going to Pakistan, India, China, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Previously, the office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs had said that in the first five months of the current solar year, Afghanistan exported 49 billion AFG worth of products, particularly fresh fruits, dry fruits, herbal plants, vegetables, coal and others to India, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Turkiye and Iraq. Currently, Afghanistan has traded with all countries in the region and the world. Following the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate in mid-August 2021, there have been considerable developments in trade between Afghanistan and other countries in the world and region. In the past two years, ground has been provided for national traders to export the country’s domestic products to foreign countries. As part of increasing trade between Afghanistan and Iran, the 20-day restriction on the entry of Iranian trucks to Herat province has been lifted, which will lead to the expansion of trade and provide more employment opportunities. In the meantime, all restrictions imposed on Uzbekistan’s transit vehicles in Afghanistan have been also lifted in recent days. Recently, the transportation authorities of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have determined the costs of international road transportation in each other’s territory on an equal basis starting from 2024. Such trade and economic agreements between Afghanistan and other neighboring countries can benefit both our country and other countries in the region, can create jobs, and can be very useful for crediting national and trade relations. During 2023, trade relations between Afghanistan and other countries in the world and region have improved considerably as exports of Afghanistan’s various commodities have increased to various countries of the world including the United States, France and Turkiye. In late July last year, Afghanistan exported pomegranate juice to the United States for the first time after the withdrawal of U.S.-led NATO forces from Afghanistan. Exports of the country’s domestic products to foreign countries can boost the productivity of Afghanistan and bring major changes in the economy of the country.
