Explosive kills one, injures another in Nangarhar

JALALABAD: An Explosive Remnant of War (ERW) has killed one child and injured another in the country’s eastern province of Nangarhar, an official said Saturday. The incident happened late on Thursday in Dwano village of Kot district, where two found an explosive remnant of war and started playing with, said Abdul Basir Zabuli the provincial police spokesman. “A six-year-old boy has been killed and his eight-year-old sister injured, when the explosive device, they were playing with, went off at the spot, after the children hit it with stone,” said the spokesman. The injured child had been taken to the provincial hospital for treatment, the spokesman said. According to an eyewitness, on condition of anonymity said that the children found the explosive shell and wanted to sell it in a scrap shop, but the device exploded and killed one of them and injured another. Explosive devices are blamed to take numerous victims, mostly children in the suburbs and countryside of the country, where they are found and used as scrapmetals by the children. The Kabul Times
