EU to construct, repair 400 schools in Afghanistan

KABUL: The European Union Charge d’Affaires Raffaella Lodice, in a meeting, with the Acting Minister of Education Mawlavi Habibul lah Agha, promised that the EU will construct and repair 400 schools in different parts of Afghanistan in the near future, the ministry said in a statement the other day. Addressing the meeting, Habibullah Agha said the development of the country requires a strong education system and his-led ministry was making efforts to provide a standard education environment to all Afghans, according to the statement. “Without a modern education system, a country cannot step toward development and prosperity; so, we want to develop the education system for the country’s selfsufficiency, give every child a pen and a book. By promoting education, we can direct our country out of backwardness,” the statement quoted Mawlavi Agha as saying. Minister Agha added four decades of conflicts had caused Afghanistan to remain backward in development. “We have been known to the world in a negative way. We want them to come to Afghanistan and see everything. Jawid Hussain
