KABUL: The Minister of Water and Energy Mawlavi Abdul Latif Mansour held a coordination meeting with the officials of Awfi Bahram Mining and Pro cessing Trading Company, to discuss the start of practical work on 72 megawatts coal-fired power project in the country’s eastern province of Paktika, the ministry said in a statement Tuesday. In the meeting, official of the company have shown their readiness to start practical work on the project and asked the ministry to speed up the primary work and pave the ground for the start of work on the project, the statement said. Officials of the company will also invest in the Islamic banking system in the country, the statement, further said. Expressing pleasure over their interest in investing in the country, Minister Mansour, assured that they will be provided with necessary investment cooperation and facilities, the statement added. A few weeks ago, a contract on the generation of 72 megawatts of coal-fired energy has been signed between the ministry and the company. Earlier, a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the ministry and Gulbahar Investment Company on the generation of 100 to 200 megawatts of power from coal and gas sources in the country.
