Efforts underway to increase exports of domestic products

Afghan traders have already asked for facilities and
such priorities that need to be given to vehicles containing fresh fruits and vegetables.

Efforts are underway towards increasing exports of the country’s domestic products to foreign countries, particularly the neighboring countries. For the first time, the country’s Ministry of Finance has announced that vehicles containing fresh fruit and vegetables are given priority at all the customs facilities in the country This is a key step taken by the country’s Ministry of Finance. This comes after farmers and orchard owners are collecting their products from their fields and orchards. Afghan traders have already asked for facilities and such priorities that need to be given to vehicles containing fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh fruits and vegetables are exported to Pakistan through Torkham and Spin Boldak customs facilities. The customs services had been extended to 24 hours and 16 hours at the respective ports. When traders wanted to export their commodities, the doors of the customs offices were open and easy for them. “Those reliable companies which exported fresh fruits and vegetables out of the country, the customs department has directed all the customs offices to allow the vehicles taking the aforesaid items to pass through the customs in case of trust,” said the country’s ministry of finance in a press release issued on Sunday. It is at such a time when fresh fruits and vegetables are ready in Afghanistan. Most of these items are exported to Pakistan and other neighboring countries. In previous years, most of the time when fresh fruits and vegetables had been ready and the export was started to Pakistan, this country used to create hurdles in the routes on various pretexts. Mostly, the fruits and vegetables got spoiled in the bordering areas due to delays in transportation. It inflicted losses worth millions of dollars on the traders. With the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) takeover and improvement of the overall security situation across Afghanistan, the matter has been addressed up to a great extent. However, the issues have not been addressed completely so far. Considering the economic policies of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the past one year, a large number of programs have been launched for the development of exports which helped increased the country’s export to around $2 billion. Based on information of the country’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, over 80 percent of industries are operationalized. The ministry has said that a plan of use of internal products has been presented to the cabinet, the tax on industrialists has been decreased from 4 percent to 2 percent and 8 percent of the subject tax has been waived off. It is worth mentioning that for the first time, Afghanistan’s exports have reached nearly $2 billion in the past one year. There are hopes that the level will increase in the coming year.
