Drug labs destroyed, 17 arrested in Bamyan

BAMYAN: At least 7 drugproducing factories have been destroyed and 17 suspects arrested in the past two months in the country’s central province of Bamyan, the provincial police chief said in a statement Sunday. “Police personal during a series of clearance operations, have discovered and destroyed seven drug-producing labs in Sayghan, Waras, Kahmard and Yakawlang districts of the province in the past two months,” the statement quoted the provincial police spokesperson Mohammad Kh wani Rasa as saying. Heroin, hashish and alcoholic beverages have been processed and produced in the factories and were transferred into neighboring provinces, the statement said, adding that 17 individuals in connection with the case have also been arrested and taken to the justice and judiciary organs for further investigations. For rooting out the narcotics, lots of efforts have been made and a series of plans including public awareness antidrug campaign, were also taken by the provincial police personnel to eradicate poppy farmlands as well as the drug-producing factories in the province, the statement further said. Pointing to the necessity of countering against the cultivation of poppy, the counter-narcotics police personnel asked the people to avoid cultivation, selling, purchasing and smuggling of the drugs across the province, the statement added.
