Dozens of agricultural projects implemented in Herat last year

HERAT: Forty-four agricultural projects have been implemented in the country’s western province of Herat in the last year, a statement from the provincial Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department said Sunday. Provincial Inspector of Agri- culture, Irrigation and Livestock Mawlavi Nasim Sahar said that the most important projects were the distribution of 55 packages of modified seeds with chemical fertilizer for the farmers. “Some 100,000 people have been provided with job opportunities by the relevant NGOs in the province,” the statement quoted Mawlavi Sahar as saying. Lots of efforts have been made to control the price of Saffron and increase its price from 20,000 to 110,000 Afghani per kilo, said the statement quoting Sahar. A plan to build and develop 2,000 acres of land for pistachios has also been proposed to the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, according to the statement. The Kabul Times
