Domestic company to invest in production of electricity from coal

Afghanistan Ministry of Energy and Water MoEW has said that domestic companies have showed interest in investing the production of electricity from coal in the country. Alhaj Ghulam Jailani Haqparast, head of public relations of the ministry of water and energy in an interview with The Kabul Times correspondent said that representatives of Gulbahar Group in a meeting with the acting minister of water and energy last week showed interest in investment in the production of electricity from coal.
According to Haqparast, representatives of Gulbahar Group in the meeting expressed their willingness to invest in a plant for the production of electricity from coal and asked the ministry of water and energy for cooperation in this regard. Haqparast added that acting minister of water and energy by praising the company’s officials for possible investment in the respective sector assured of the ministry’s technical support.
“Gulbahar Group has showed interest in investing in the production of electricity from coal in a recent meeting between the leadership of the ministry of water and energy and representatives of the company. Both sides discussed technical issues and necessary opportunities in investment in the production of electricity from coal,” Haqparast said, adding that both sides would sit in near future to further discuss the issues. Haqparast also said that a plan has been prepared for investment in the production of electricity from domestic sources, adding that based on the plan, there would be three projects that would product 50 megawatt electricity from coal in the country.
According to Haqparast, a technical team of the Ministry of Energy and Water has recently visited some coal mines in Balkh and Baghlan provinces to collect technical info for the production of electricity from the coal sources. The team will soon share its survey and info with the leadership of the ministry of water and energy.
Head of the public relations of the ministry of water and energy further said that work on a mechanism for investment in the production of electricity from coal has been almost finalized and would be soon shared with the country’s economic commission.
It is worth mentioning that the country’s ministry of water and energy has also worked on plans for the production of electricity from coal and solar power plant projects. Besides, the ministry has also worked in absorption of investment in the production of electricity from coal, solar, gas, bio-copper and wind.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has repeatedly asked both national and international traders and companies for investment in mining, production of electricity from coal and other domestic resources and fields.
