Doha meeting; Afghanistan in favor of constructive engagement with world

With the Islamic Emirate takeover in mid-August 2021, a number of countries in the world and region have entered into engagement with Afghanistan. Currently, Afghanistan has good trade and political relations with some countries in the region. There is no obstacle to reopening the embassies of countries in Kabul, and any country, including the U.S., can activate their embassies and enter an engagement with Afghanistan to be in contact with the Islamic Emirate through diplomatic channels. The Islamic Emirate officials have repeatedly stated that Afghanistan is in favor of good and constructive interaction with all countries of the world. In the most recent video message, the Islamic Emirate spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that the Islamic Emirate will not beg to any country to reopen its embassy in Kabul as there is no obstacle to reopening embassies of countries in Kabul. He has stated that the Islamic Emirate is in favor of good interaction with all countries and that the countries of the region and the world can take the path of interaction with Afghanistan instead of pressure options. “What we see or hear in the name of pressure does not work. It hasn’t worked yet and it won’t in the future. The people of Afghanistan will not submit to pressure. It is better to have understanding, it is better to have interaction,” he stressed. Meanwhile, Zakir Jalali, Director of the Third Political Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, has also said that the Islamic Emirate is in favor of constructive engagement with Western countries, just as progress has been made with neighboring and regional countries. The Director of the Third Political Division of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) wrote the other day on the X platform that this time, unlike the previous Doha meeting, the conditions for the presence of the IEA delegation have become favorable, but it remained to be seen how the developments related to this meeting would unfold in less than 10 days. He stated that the Doha meeting should be evaluated in its appropriate context, and added that in this meeting, the special envoys of some countries for Afghanistan would discuss and talk under the leadership of the UN Deputy Secretary-General. “The Islamic Emirate has also decided to send a delegation, taking into account the agenda and composition of the meeting that was previously shared with the Islamic Emirate. However, it is still unclear at what level the Islamic Emirate will participate in the meeting,” Jalali said. He further wrote that the agenda of the meeting suggested that the discussions would focus on private sector, financial and banking issues, as well as the fight against drugs and alternative livelihoods in the country. There are hopes that most countries of the world, including the Western countries, will enter into constructive engagement with the Islamic Emirate as no pressure from their side has worked yet and it won’t work in the future. All sides now know better that constructive interaction with each other works. This comes as the Islamic Emirate has repeatedly asked for constructive engagement with the world. It is worth mentioning that the Doha meeting will be hosted by the United Nations on June 30 with the participation of the Islamic Emirate representatives and special representatives of countries for Afghanistan.
