Defense minister, Chinese ambassador discuss bilateral cooperation

KABUL: The Acting Minister of National Defense, Mawlavi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, in a meeting with Zhao Xing, the Chinese Ambassador to Kabul, discussed enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation, the ministry said in a statement the other day. Addressing the meeting, Mawlavi Yaqoob acknowledged the positive developments in diplomatic, commercial, and economic cooperation between the two countries and emphasized the shared interests and commonalities that exist between Afghanistan and China, particularly in terms of strengthening relations as neighboring nations, according to the statement. The defense minister praised the Chinese investments in Afghanistan and reiterated their commitment to enhancing the security of the Chinese investors and traders in the country. Considering overall security as a good opportunity for strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, Zhao Xing reaffirmed China’s longstanding commitment to cooperate in commercial, economic, and similar domains while maintaining a non-interference policy in political issues.
