DAB seeking UN cooperation for releasing assets

KABUL: The governor of the country’s central bank or Da Afghanistan Bank, Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, met with the United Nations Special Coordinator and Independent Assessor to Afghanistan Feridun Hadi Sinirlioðlu and his accompanying delegations, here in Kabul, the bank said in a statement Saturday. Badri asked for the cooperation of the United Nations to free the country’s foreign reserves, according to the statement. The meeting discussed issues of mutual interests including cooperation, removing restrictions on the country’s banking system, developing the private sector, and unfrozen of the country’s foreign assets, the statement said. “The main obstacles in not accessing the country’s banks to the international banks were the imposed sanctions on Afghanistan’s banking sectors, as they have put negative effects on the country’s economic development and faced Afghans with a lot of challenges “the statement quoted Badri as saying. Pointing to the importance and positive effects of working with the international banks, as well as in reducing the negative impacts of restrictions from the country’s banking system and economy, Badri said that the country’s central bank was always committed to working with the international banks and financial institutions, the statement added. Meanwhile, Sinirlioðlu assured that the world wants positive engagement with Afghanistan and is interested to work with the country in all sectors, the statement concluded. The Kabul Times
