Country’s exports surpass $1.7 billion, official

KABUL: The country’s exports have reached 1.717 billion U.S. dollars in the past months of the current year, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement on Tuesday. Most of the exports were coal, carpet, dried and fresh fruits, and saffron, which have been exported to Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan, the statement said. Since the takeover of the country by the Islamic Emirate, significant progress has been made in the country’s exports to foreign countries, the statement said, adding dried fruits are one of Afghanistan’s main export items that bring huge incomes to both people and government every year. Now the Islamic Emirate is making efforts to increase the export level of dried fruits abroad as it can produce hundreds of thousands of tons of dried fruits. Balkh, Herat, Kandahar and Kabul are key fruit-producing provinces of the country. The Kabul Times
