Construction work on Qadis storage dam kicked off

KABUL: The construction work on Qadis storage dam worth 12.5 million U.S. dollars, in an official ceremony, has been kicked off by the Acting Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Mullah Mohammad Younus Akhundzada, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday. The ceremony was participated by a number of high-ranking officials including the Director of the provincial Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Mawlavi Bakht Muneer Mohammad and the Director of the General Intelligence Directorate Mawlavi Mohammad Esa, the statement said. “The dam with a capacity of 1.82 million cubic meters of water will be built with the financial support of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in Qadis district of the province,” the statement said. With the construction of the dam, 1,400 hectares of land will be irrigated and 60,000 residents of the area will be provided with employment opportunities in the field of agriculture, the statement quoted.
